It started with two budgies nobody wanted.
Over thirty years ago in Campbell, California, the founders took in two parakeets their neighbors planned to release. One rescue led to the next.
From a home to a sanctuary
A "baby parrot" that turned out to be a grown blue-crowned conure. An impulse-bought macaw, then two cockatoos. Then a pet store asked if they'd take a macaw that bit and screamed. Over six years, their home became a rescue and then a sanctuary, because so many of these birds could no longer live as pets.
In 2001 they moved the flock to a farm in Whatcom County, where there was more space and no professional parrot rescue nearby.

Our mission
To give hookbill parrots a safe, permanent home for life, in a natural flock where they can be birds again.
We don't adopt birds out. When a bird just needs a new home, we try to place it with the right family before it ever arrives. Cockatoos, Moluccans especially, are close to our hearts: few birds suffer more in captivity.
We also teach. Visitors meet our "special cases" and learn what parrot care really costs in time and money, so fewer birds end up needing us.
